Wallace State Men’s Soccer Rolls Past Northeast Alabama in Conference Win

HANCEVILLE, Ala. - The Wallace State men’s soccer team kept its strong start to the
season rolling on Tuesday with a 4-1 conference victory over Northeast Alabama. The
win improved the Lions to 4-1-1 overall and 2-0 in Alabama Community College Conference
play, while NACC fell to 0-8-3.
Wallace State wasted no time putting its stamp on the match. Elias Meinhardt scored
in the opening minute off an assist from Yaya Jawneh, then doubled the lead in the
eighth minute when he pounced on a rebound from an Oscar Maldonado shot. Northeast
Alabama responded in the 21st minute, trimming the margin to 2-1, and the score remained
that way through halftime.
The Lions regrouped after the break and pulled away behind the play of Javier Miranda.
The sophomore midfielder converted a penalty kick in the 56th minute, his second successful
penalty of the year, before adding another strike 11 minutes later from the top of
the box to cap the scoring at 4-1.
“Good win today,” Wallace State head coach James Fee said. “We started extremely well,
scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. Elias was a machine in front
of the goal with two shots and two goals. We slightly pulled our foot off the gas
and gifted them a goal in the first half. Second half, we stepped up the intensity
and Javi converted a penalty, his second of the year, and scored a good goal top of
the box.”
The Lions will look to continue their momentum when they travel to Enterprise State
on Saturday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
