Ma’Kyla “Toot” Williams catches a touchdown pass earlier in the season in a win over Calhoun

CULLMAN — Cold weather, tough conditions, and a resilient opponent couldn’t slow Wallace State flag football on Sunday, as the Lions pushed their record to 14-0 with back-to-back wins over Calhoun at Woodard Stadium. Wallace State opened the day with a hard-fought 33-20 victory before dominating game two, 31-6, to continue its unbeaten run.

Game One: Weathering the Storm
The first game was played in cold, damp conditions that tested both sides. Wallace State broke through late in the first quarter when quarterback Emma Kile connected with Destinee Ealy for a 13-yard touchdown, giving the Lions a 6-0 lead.

Early in the second, Kile found Taylor Kindred on a 2-yard strike to extend the advantage to 12-0, but Calhoun responded with a 64-yard touchdown to trim the deficit to 12-7. The Lions answered with a steady, methodical drive, capped by a 25-yard scoring pass from Kile to Ma’Kyla “Toot” Williams to restore momentum. A successful conversion sent Wallace into halftime with a 20-7 lead.

The Lions stayed hot after the break as Kile connected with Maggie Patterson from a yard out to make it 27-7. But Calhoun battled back, scoring twice in the second half to pull within 26-20. With the game hanging in the balance, Wallace State sealed the win when Mariah Ragland broke free for a 12-yard touchdown run, securing the 33-20 final.

Game Two: Lions in Control
Wallace State wasted no time taking charge in game two. Late in the opening quarter, Kile launched a 38-yard touchdown strike to Ragland for a 6-0 lead. Defensive pressure then swung the game even further in the Lions’ favor, as Carley Paschal recorded back-to-back sacks to force a punt. The Lions capitalized with another score, this time on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Kindred to Patterson for a 12-0 lead.

Calhoun cut into the margin with a 14-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter, but Wallace locked down defensively the rest of the way. Kindred delivered a backbreaking play in the third, intercepting a pass and returning it 25 yards for a touchdown. Williams followed with a dazzling 32-yard punt return score on the first play of the fourth quarter, putting the game out of reach. Kile then added one final highlight, hauling in a 1-yard touchdown pass from Kindred to close out the 31-6 victory.

Lions by the Numbers
Wallace State’s offense was relentless across both games. Kile finished the day completing 43 of 70 passes for 448 yards and five touchdowns, while also catching one herself. Kindred showcased her versatility, hauling in 17 catches for 161 yards and a touchdown, tossing two scores, recording 13 flag pulls, and adding a pick-six on defense.

Ragland powered the ground game with 82 rushing yards and a touchdown, while also adding 65 receiving yards and a score.
